Kenneth W. Adkins, PE, Chairman Emeritus, Semi/Retired
As president and one of four founding principals of ABMB,
Ken Adkins has been the strategic and motivating force
that
has enabled ABMB to grow in size to include 100 engineers
and support staff at three offices in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Under his leadership, the firm has
developed
an extensive
and varied practice throughout
the United States, embracing
such specialties as traffic engineering, site/civil, as
well as
bridge and highway
design.
Equally important has been Ken’s role in establishing
the
culture of the firm. At ABMB, engineering is not
seen as an
end in itself, but as a service to our clients
and a force that
can contribute to the well-being of our
society. We understand
that people depend on our work.
Ken is a highly experienced engineer and manager, with
35
years of experience in the design, layout, construction
supervision,
and administration of highway and rural and
urban roadway
projects. Before founding ABMB, he worked for the Federal
Highway Administration, finishing a 16-year career as location
and design engineer in the Louisiana Division Office. He
was responsible for the federal assignment for the 250-mile
section of Interstate 49 extending from U.S. 190 at Opelousas,
Louisiana, to Shreveport, Louisiana.
Ken is also highly active in professional and civic affairs. He
has served as a member and then chair of the Transportation
Committee of the Consulting Engineers Council of Louisiana.
He also is passionate about the Betty Smothers K-Y Track
Club, an organization that promotes athletic and academic
performance among disadvantaged young people. He has
devoted thousands of hours to this cause, serving as its
president and chief fundraiser.
