Extensive caring for General Health System's Bluebonnet Campus with master planning

To better the available services of the Baton Rouge General Health System, ABMB assisted in the master plan for the expansion of their second campus located off of Bluebonnet Boulevard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The master plan included complete development of the 115-acre campus from Ward’s Creek to the KC Southern Railroad. The first phase was the expansion of the current hospital building. This phase eventually doubled the size of the existing hospital and consisted of a new five-story nursing unit tower, a new two-story addition to Emergency Department, a new cancer treatment center, and renovations of the existing building interior. Planning and design began in 2003 and construction of Phase 1 finished in 2008.

The nursing tower houses three new nursing units, a new labor, delivery, and postpartum unit, and new food service facilities. On the other side of the campus, the new two-story Emergency Department addition quarters included an expanded support services unit on the first floor. A new Critical care unit, Heart Catheterization Unit, and future Operating Room expansion space complete the second floor. Much needed support and storage spaces were added along with 133 new patient beds. 

The existing building underwent a separate renovation, adding a wing to house the new Pennington Cancer Center. A new mechanical plant was also added to the rear of the site, along with several new parking lots surrounding the new expansion to accommodate the increased density. 

All of these improvements, which were made possible through ABMB’s careful research and planning in developing the property and improving transportation flow, have enabled the hospital to vastly expand its services and treatment options for patients.
