One of the first Design-Build projects undertaken by the LADOTD, this project involved the improvement of a grade separated, diamond interchange at US 90 and LA 85 in Iberia Parish. This future I-49 interchange required major enhancements to meet interstate standards for its upcoming reclassification.
An overpass of LA 85 was added and the parallel structures were designed to allow LA 85 to be widened to 4 lanes in the future, as well as allow the existing lanes of US 90 to provide ramp access to LA 85. The two-way frontage roads parallel to US 90 were improved with pavement replacement and design for new signage was provided by ABMB to outfit the interchange once the I-49 conversion is complete.
Also, a 350-foot communications tower obstructing the progress of the interchange was removed, and a relocated, improved 450-foot structure was erected.
As Lead Design Firm, ABMB was responsible for all roadway, hydraulic, maintenance of traffic, and structural design, as well as survey and utility relocation elements. ABMB also developed and implemented an exhaustive Design Quality Plan approved by the LADOTD.
The project construction was completed on schedule in June 2011 – the first Design-Build completion for LADOTD, as well as for ABMB.
