General Growth Properties (GGP) contracted ABMB to assist in the planning and development of their prized Mall of Louisiana Campus. GGP needed to overcome several hurdles to expand the site, including a necessary Picardy Avenue Extension, mitigation of wetlands, the relocation of Dawson’s Creek, the filling in of two massive borrow pits over 15 feet deep, and relocation of primary electrical service to the existing campus structures. Development of the campus evolved in several phases with the Rave Movie Theater and The Boulevard, a 177,000 square foot lifestyle center, being the first two.
Subsequent phases of the campus development included utility relocation, and the extensions and connections necessary for the Mall’s Ring Road to operate as a successful conduit. ABMB also oversaw the construction of the 143,000 square foot Power Center and designed a widening of the I-10 eastbound off-ramp, and major directional sign upgrades to continue to improve access and traffic flow.
Throughout the entire campus development, which lasted over four years, ABMB maintained a constant line of communication with both local and national GGP officials and other design professionals involved to ensure the quality and success of the project. The final tasks of the project included several Planning Commission approvals in order to change the name of Picardy Avenue Extension to Mall of Louisiana Boulevard, the re-subdivision of the property, and permission to construct several aesthetic informational signs throughout the property.
