ABMB / Engineering Services / Traffic Engineering

ABMB has unique experience with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). We have successfully completed several projects for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) ranging in scope and complexity. ABMB has completed all aspects of ITS design including the study phase, the design of the ITS equipment, and specifications and bid packages.

The ABMB Team’s experience in the design of ITS include the following
·          Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
·          Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV)
·          Radar Vehicle Detectors (RVD)
·          Dynamic Curve Warning Signs (DCWS)
·          ITS Node Sites
·          Optical Fiber and Electrical Power Distribution System
·          Wireless Communication System
·          System Integration
·          ITS system Burn-In
·          Railroad Crossing Permits
·          Documentation, Specifications
·          Handhold/Pullboxes

In addition, ABMB was recently selected for a similar LADOTD contract.
Example Projects:
Shreveport/Bossier City ITS Deployment Near Term Phase 1
Designed ITS equipment on 10 mile stretch of I-20 in Shreveport, LA. Equipment included 17 Video cameras, 8 Dynamic Message Signs and 66 radar counters. Project included plan preparation of communications diagrams, fiber optic allocation diagrams, fiber optic termination diagrams, telecommunication facilities, power services, wireless transmitters and receivers, related conduit and end equipment, general notes, special details, and terrain analyses.

Shreveport/Bossier City ITS Deployment Immediate Term Phase 2
Designed ITS equipment on LA 526 (Bert Kouns Industrial Loop) in Shreveport, LA. Project included approximately 10 closed circuit television cameras and 16 signalized intersection upgrades. Project includes a systems engineering analysis, plan preparation of communications diagrams, fiber optic allocation diagrams, fiber optic termination diagrams, telecommunication facilities, power services, wireless transmitters and receivers, related conduit and end equipment, general notes, special details, technical specifications, and terrain analyses.

Shreveport/Bossier City ITS Deployment Near Term Phase 3A
Designed ITS equipment on a 22 mile stretch of I-220 in Shreveport, LA. Project included approximately 36 closed circuit television cameras, 5 dynamic message signs, and 143 radar vehicle detectors. Project included plan preparation of communications diagrams, fiber optic allocation diagrams, fiber optic termination diagrams, telecommunication facilities, power services, wireless transmitters and receivers, related conduit and end equipment, general notes, special details, and terrain analyses.

I-10 Atchafalaya Traffic Incident Management Plan
Evaluated ITS equipment and communications needs and designed signing plans for TIM. Signing plans were developed to redirect I-10 traffic via US 190 in the event of an incident on I-10 over the Atchafalaya Basin. The evaluation included communication system needs, incident history and frequency, ITS equipment needs, radio frequency terrain analysis, alternate route evaluation, and systems engineering analysis for the future deployment project. Design plans included incident management signs and conceptual ITS equipment layout.

Houma ITS Deployment Phase 3
Perform ITS study and design services for Houma, LA. The project includes analysis of approximately 44 traffic signals along LA 24, design of plans for the fiber optic communication connections of 12 local centers and regional connection to the statewide fiber backbone, and deployment of 2 dynamic messages signs for draw-bridge preemption. The analysis of the LA 24 signals will evaluate the use of adaptive control software for the corridor. Project includes a systems engineering analysis, plan preparation of communications diagrams, fiber optic allocation diagrams, fiber optic termination diagrams, telecommunication facilities, power services, wireless transmitters and receivers, related conduit and end equipment, general notes, special details, technical specifications, and terrain analyses.

Baton Rouge to New Orleans ITS-TIM Phases 1-3
Perform ITS study and management services for 3 design-build projects between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA. The project includes providing system engineering analysis for communications and deploying ITS equipment to facilitate TIM along I-10 and US 61. Develop Memorandums of Understanding to coordinate roles in TIM as well as operating and maintaining the ITS system. Project includes developing Notice of Interest, Request for Qualifications, and Scope of Services Packages documents as well as reviewing proposal Statements of Qualifications and deployment Proposals.

I-10 Atchafalaya ITS-TIM
Perform management services for a design-build project between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, LA. The project includes providing documentation for an ITS deployment project to facilitate TIM based on system engineering analysis previously provided. Also, the project includes developing Notice of Interest, Request for Qualifications, and Scope of Services Packages documents as well as reviewing proposed Statements of Qualifications and deployment Proposals.

Baton Rouge Regional ITS Architecture
Develop a regional architecture and ITS deployment plan based on the National ITS Architecture. Project included stakeholder interviews, development of communication flow diagrams using Turbo Architecture, regional needs, operation statements, as well as projects planned in the next five years.

Traffic Incident Management, MOU LSP-LADOTD

Assisted LADOTD in associated with Louisiana State Police (LSP) and Federal Highway Association (FHWA) in the development of a Memorandum of Understanding to better coordinate the roles and responsibilities between the LSP and the LADOTD in traffic incident management. The document will provide for the implementation of the developed Statewide Traffic Incident Management Plan and associated training and maintenance.
