US 90 Signal Design | Mississippi

Client: Mississippi Department of Transportation

US 90 has played a vital role in the health and growth of coastal Mississippi for decades.  As traffic demands grew over the past 15 years, the need to expand US 90 became apparent.  However, in 2005, Hurricane Katrina Gulf Coast and dealt a massive blow causing major destruction in Mississippi along the US 90 Corridor and calling for the replacement of 45 traffic signals.

The project in which ABMB worked with the Mississippi Department of Transportation included the replacement of all signals along the US 90 corridor.  By using the latest technology, the expected result was to design a better, ’smarter’ roadway through the cities of Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport and Biloxi.  ABMB also spearheaded new design criteria for mast arm signal supports and their foundations to provide increased resistance to future storm damage.  Those new design criteria are currently in place on all MDOT projects.
