Client: Arkansas State Highway Commission

In September 2006, the Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a planning study to evaluate the applicability of Continuous Flow Intersections (CFI) to major urban intersections along the Arkansas Highway System. As a leader in the design of CFIs, ABMB assisted in the statewide study which was comprised of two phases.  Phase 1 consisted of a location study which identified the top ten most appropriate intersections for CFI application. Initially, we reviewed 35 potential CFI intersections recommended by AHDT. This list was then evaluated based on readily available information enabling ABMB to reduce the list of intersections to be evaluated to 20 intersections.  Phase 2 provided design concepts and traffic model analysis for five of the top 20 intersections. The overall intersection findings were presented to the AHDT for review.  Over the course of this two year project, ABMB was able to successfully provide evaluated intersections for potential CFIs along AHDT’s major highway systems.
